Nehemiah 4:4, 9, 14, 20 (The Message, Amplified Bible, NIV)

Nehemiah prayed, "Oh listen to us, dear God. We're so despised. Turn the taunts and ridicule of the enemy back on their own heads…”

When Sanballat, Tobiah, and the rest of the enemy heard that the repairs of the walls of Jerusalem were going so well – that the breaks in the wall were being fixed - they were absolutely furious. They put their heads together and decided to fight against us and create as much trouble as they could. We countered with prayer to our God and set a round-the-clock guard against them to meet this threat. I stationed armed guards at the most vulnerable places of the wall.

After looking things over I stood up and spoke to everyone: Do not be afraid of the enemy; remember the Lord and imprint Him on your minds. Put your minds on the Master, great and awesome, and then take from Him courage to fight."

"There's a lot of work going on and we are spread out all along the wall, separated from each other. Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!"

Last week, we began a look at the book of Nehemiah.  This is a wonderful story of a people standing up to a greater enemy and winning because they put their trust in God.  The walls of the city of Jerusalem had been weakened, set on fire, torn completely down in many places, the gates of the city had been burned and rendered useless and the enemies of Judah would come into the city and terrorize the people.  They still had that slave mentality and had a difficult time in defending themselves.
